Andrea Clarkson earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting at Bowling Green State University. She is a member of the Oil Painters of America and the Palette and Chisel in Chicago, IL.
One of the places Clarkson paints in plein air is the small fishing village of Zihuatanejo on the west coast of Mexico, where she lives and works part of the year. “The people there are living a different life than most of us know,” she says. “It is like traveling back in time.”
“My subject matter ranges from seaside fish markets and street scenes to the way light and shadow create harmony in a still life or a person’s face. Expressive brushwork, thoughtful composition and good drafting skills are guiding principles with every new piece. My work does not have a particular style–it is simply what I see.”
